Free Designs Inspiration Sampler 2

Another Class Sampler, an option for

 trying out your newly learnt skills. 


The base of this pillow is made from a selection
 of handkerchiefs, some with special meaning
 to myself. The edgings and crochet or lace 
edgings can also  be embellished with 
Embroidery Stitches.

Take a piece of Pelon the size required for the 
pillow allowing a seam edge. Layer the hankies 
over this cutting if necessary to make into
 one piece. Pin in position and use tacking stitches
 to keep in position while you work. 
This can be inserted in a hoop for the SRE or free
 stitch in your hands for the Embroidery. 

Adding the Embroidery Stitches first will make it
 sit a little easier, and along with the tacking stitches
 will mean you have no pins protruding to catch 
the ribbon as you are creating flowers etc. 
Also in class we added some Hand Dyed Laces,
 Buttons, Beads etc.

Samples of the Designs below to give you some 
inspiration, it is just free design, but also
 stitching a suitable flower for the shapes 
created from the Handkerchiefs.

Make up the Pillow in a style you wish, in this case
fine lace trim and a wide ruffle.

So much prettier than having them hidden away
in a drawer.

Re-creating a flower with a raised centre  as in the Cosmos Tutorial The Silk Ribbon I am using is a  hand dyed Dinky Dyes 4 mm. Wattle. One flower took less  than 1 metre. There are many varieties of Sunflowers with a varying number of petals,  but for this exercise I am  creating  24 Petals. Silk Ribbon Embroidery Tutorial - Tulips

TULIPS Simply constructed in Ribbon Stitch, the effect of  the petals are  changed by  using Side Ribbon Stitch.  Instead  of taking the needle  through the centre of  the ribbon,   place the eye of the needle on the  left or  right seam  of the ribbon.  As the needle is pulled  through  the   ribbon curls toward the entry point,  thus  giving the  petal   a  slight  rolled edge.  1: Firstly a ribbon stitch for the centre.  2: Make 2 more ribbon stitches for the outer petals, just slightly shorter length than the centre.  3: The stem is tightly twisted ribbon as  in the iris  next add some leaves. Viola in Silk Ribbon Embroidery

As I promised in my earlier posting of Pansies in SRE, this is my version of a Viola flower. Please keep in mind that I have worked this in  7 mm. ribbons to make it easier to see on your monitors. I feel these would be so much more delicate and  effective in a 4 mm. ribbon. For the purpose of stitching this flower I have marked  out a  circle with a diameter of 20 mm.   Three Ribbon Stitches in Purple.  1 o'clock,  12 o'clock  11 o'clock slightly overlapping the previous one. Keep the Ribbon Stitches as rounded at the tips as  possible, shaping them around your fingernail.   Two Ribbon Stitches in Cream,  with the tip of the petal just outside the marked  circle. 1- Between 2 and 3 o'clock     1 - Between 9 and 10 o'clock.
